How Einstein Can Help Us
Albert Einstein had to deal with many questions that he could not answer through experimentation. The tools and technology were not available to do the experiments in a laboratory. So how did Einstein find his answers?
He used his imagination. He implemented "thought experiments" in his head. He created the tools he needed and experimented with them in great detail. He ran his "thought experiments" over and over in his head, each time trying to make them more detailed and complete. Thus a poorly-paid, unknown clerk in the Swiss patent office produced four scientific papers in 1905 that shook the foundation of the physical sciences. That's a pretty impressive pay-off for an active imagination.
It can pay off for you too. You're lucky. You have a tool to go with your imagination that Einstein never had. You're looking at it right now. It's the Internet. Perhaps the Internet has excited your imagination before, but I'm talking about something much more detailed. You need to identify what you need to get out of your trap that you don't have now. Then you have to do your "thought experiment" and make it as detailed as possible, just as Einstein did. You may not shake the foundation of the physical sciences, but you can shake up your life.
Thus ends the "core essay" of Living Reed, the basis for everything else you will find at this website. Four steps:
- Indentify that which traps you.
- Don't trap others.
- Learn to adapt. That is your greatest strength.
- Do your "thought experiment", then act on it.
